Celtx Review
This is definitely the best free screenwriting software I have ever used. Aside from formatting and properly indenting sluglines, action, and characters, it also remembers character names and keeps a log of scene headers. The only problem that I have with Celtx is that it capitalizes parentheticals, much unlike standard professional screenwriting software such as Final Draft or Slugline. Nevertheless, this program is an excellent choice for amatuer screenwiters who are just starting out, or professional screenwriters who would just prefer not to spend any money.
Miss The Old Desktop Version
I recently got a Mac (regretfully but that’s another story) and because I don’t like the other desktop screenwriting software out there I’ve been using Celtx Cloud screenwriting - which is great but I still like the old desktop version better. I am using Celtx screenwriting not because it’s free, but out of preference. The thing is, there’s nothing worse than being in the flow of creating when the internet goes out. (I keep telling people we need to get over this complete dependency upon the internet before we have complete catastrophe on our hands, but that’s another story too). I just downloaded this app but it doesn’t seem to be completely desktop based ????? Can’t tell because my internet is back up. I just wanted to give this feedback, because I really love everything that Celtx has to offer. Cloud-based programs are great, but if would be even greater if we had desktop versions as backup for when the internet is unavailable.
Ok, bare bones - spell dialogue correctly
You can tell the creators don’t really know what they are making when they spell dialogue, dialog, the computer term not the spoken word and screenplay spelling, dialogue. Are you making a computer program or a screenwriting software.
This app doesn’t seem completely finished. So many blatant bugs. The format always puts 1 space after periods or shifts paragraphs over and looks weird. Not intuitive switching with TAB to the next format. The three most used should be character, dialogue and action. On iphone and ipad I can switch scenes around by dragging, but on mac version you can’t. Always opens at 100% which is tiny, doesn’t remember 150% is what I last used. Keeps the icloud open screen open even after I open a script. the login button keeps saying loging and doesn’t switch to logged in or say my user name. They shouldn’t charge this much for this app and then have it be crappy.
